We’ve featured CSU East Bay professor Dr. Rafael Hernandez‘s tutorials on here before (and he’s also on the Corona SDK tutorial motherload), but I just had to give his latest tutorials their own spotlight on the blog today!

Below are three 30-minute tutorials by Dr. Hernandez showing you how to make a carnival balloon-shooting game that he’s dubbed Balloon Burst. The game somewhat looks like the much-acclaimed Float by Crawl Space Games, and seems like it could have equal appeal if you were to take a little extra time to make similarly cute in-game graphics.

As for the core game mechanics…

Parts 2 and 3 after the jump…

Be sure to tell Dr. Hernandez how awesome he is via Twitter.

  1. Can I just tell him here? Dr. Hernandez. You Sir, are Awesome.
I wouldn’t understand Corona, on the level that I do right now, without your fantastic tutorials.

  2. Wow. This is an awesome Tutorial. This is a must-watch for any new Corona Developer out there. It answers a lot of my questions about memory management, using Director Class, different Game States, etc. Plus he offers the original files to pick apart and study for a measly $4.99. I learned more from this tutorial than I did from many $40 books back in my Flash learning days. Great Stuff!

  3. Great way to learn how to have a clean lua file :)
My game is working but the code is a mess. After watched this tutorial, I really want to rewrite everything!
    Thanx Dr. Hernandez
