Corona Labs and Iddiction: Promotion and Publishing for Corona Developers

Corona Labs and Iddiction: Promotion and Publishing for Corona Developers

Iddiction logoAs the App Store tops 775,000 apps, discoverability is getting tougher and tougher, especially for indie developers. To help address this issue, we’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Iddiction, a leading distribution and discovery platform for mobile apps. Iddiction works to promote and monetize awesome mobile content from talented indie developers and global game studios.

You may be familiar with Iddiction’s Appoday, a popular daily deals platform for mobile apps and games. Appoday reaches millions of engaged users each day and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, GigaOm, and The Next Web for their impressive ability to drive downloads and bring in revenue for developers. Iddiction also works as a publisher to select developers, helping optimize their games and providing the necessary marketing resources to make blockbuster hits.

Like us, Iddiction loves the work of Corona developers, so we’ve partnered to bring Iddiction’s services to as many of you as possible. If you think you have a potential hit on your hands, Iddiction may be the right partner for you. Whether you’ve already built your app, or whether it’s still in development, just fill out this form and tell us about your existing or upcoming app(s). We’ll review your information and be in touch.

Iddiction has already worked with Corona-based apps including App of the Week winner Office Master: Backstab and Gravity Maze. We think Iddiction is the best in the industry, and we look forward to all the future Corona chart-toppers that partner with Iddiction.

One important note: While we’ve partnered with Iddiction because we think they’re the best in the business, Corona developers will always be free to publish apps on their own or work with any publishing partner of their choice.

Almost always when I hear about a new company I go to their web site to find out more. Hmmm. A Twitter button and a LinkedIn button? Hmmm…

Iddiction may be a great service, but I think someone mislead them about what’s needed on a web site.

      Hey Jay,

You make a good point 🙂 But their main face is Appoday. They are a little secretive on the Iddiction side. But they are definitely very real.

      Hi Guys,

Sorry, we’re a scrappy startup much like Corona and never had time to update our website especially since the big gaming companies already use our services.

I really like what David and the Corona team are doing and see lots of talented developers using the platform. I’m an ex EA guy and I really want to help the indy guys make some great games. Partnering with Corona will allow me to help grow the community. Currently, I’m working with Jared & Tom on their Corona game called Major Magnet. I think it’s great testament to indy talent and the power of the Corona platform.

See you guys around at the next Corona Hackathon,

      Hi Jay,

We’re a small scrappy startup much like Conona Labs and never had time to update our website. We’re getting to that, but didn’t have a need to yet since we already service most of the big gaming studios.

I’m an ex EA guy and really want to help out indy devs and what David and team are doing with the platform to empower indies is mind blowing. I’m starting to see some high quality games being built on the platform and want to help grow these games.. Anyways, don’t be shy and come chat with me at the next Corona hackathon.

Jay, we’re very focused and our results speak for themselves. Web is not our focus. I grew two companies to a few hundred million downloads and I’m excited to see the potentials of the Corona platform.

    @ Jay,

You have a good sense of humor….hehehe 🙂

But, I think you’re right. I think this blog posting (and their website) a little …odd at least…no info at all about their services.

They own http://www.appoday.com for one, though they could have their main site a bit more informative to say the least

That is so funny I just deleted Appoday off of my phone because all of the garbage it promotes. Rip off Slot and Farming scam games that supposedly are $9.99 normally but now free to make you feel like your getting a great deal! So why do they still ask me to buy coins if I supposedly paid 10 bucks for a Game?

Hey Russ. Thanks for the comment. Different games have different business models – and the whole app store is moving in many ways to free games that make money with in-app purchases. That’s just the way things are.
What I do know is that Appoday often features premium games, that are normally not free. But the developers have to make money somehow and that is why there are in-app purchases. By the way, many games allow people to play for free anyway, it is when you want to get a “head start” of sorts that you buy coins or whatever virtual goods.

    IDDICTION SUCKS!

They will take over half of any profit you make if you publish through them.

You’re better off just signing up for Appoday or FAAD or App of the Day yourself, then you can keep the profits. Don’t publish through them.

Everyone is right, a reputable company would have a proper website.

Hey Tim – to my knowledge the economics of working with Iddiction as a publisher are no different from working with other publishers. That’s how it goes with publishers – they will invest significant amounts of money in promoting an app in exchange for a share of the revenue. There really isn’t another way to do it.

Independent developers are definitely free to go their own way (and many do). You just have to think about the tradeoffs. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with the funds to promote an app effectively. We (Corona Labs) are big believers in indies that go it alone, but there are times when working with publishers also makes a lot of sense.

I’m getting ready to work with a publisher for a tutorial series and my cut will be far less than 10%. But their reach far exceeds mine, so I’m looking at it as a good deal.

You want all the money? Then do all the work. But are you a game developer or a marketer, because those two things are NOT the same. If you can find someone to do the latter while you do the former — even for 50% — it’s probably worthwhile to explore the options.

I don’t know anything about Iddiction as a publisher, but the concept isn’t as “wrong” as you make it out to be.

We still don’t have admob but instead get another questionable partnership. What % of revenue do you guys make off this?

    • David Rangel
      Posted at 13:26h, 11 January

Rob – like with all of our partnerships, if you choose to do business with one of our partners, the revenue to you (the developer) is unaffected. Any revenue received by us comes out of the partners’ share.

The content gatekeepers of this industry are starting to clamp down on certain types of marketing deal, most notably with Apple’s much publicised clause 2.25, which chiefly nixes offer walls and incentivised traffic services that effectively, game the top ten charts.

    • David Rangel
      Posted at 13:28h, 11 January

Russ – that may be (honestly, it’s hard to know sometimes what Apple does or does not allow). However that does not affect any sort of publishing relationship an app developer might have. The offer walls and incentivized installs are just specific marketing tactics.

Hi guys, Richard here of Moonbeam Development. I also founded LunarAds.com and it’s really built for Corona developers. I’m seriously not trying to “toot my own horn” here but it’s really a nice product and doesn’t cost anything to use except 5% of your traffic to monetize the network itself. For promotion, it allows you to start promoting your app right away when the SDK is live in the market. I did an interview with Corona Geek before Christmas that will explain alot more about it, check it out here https://appdevelopermagazine.com/?ref=watch_video&v=17&title=All-about-LunarAds-for-mobile
Feel free to email me on the contact us form at my Moonbeam Development website or LunarAds website – I’m always open for communication.
