kfq-iconThis App of the Week will bring back a rush of fond memories for gamers who remember the 1980’s arcade classic Kung Fu Master and Karateka, Jordan Mechner’s martial arts side-scroller. KungFu Quest – The Jade Tower, developed by IPlayAllDay Studio, features a multitude of levels, smoothly-animated graphics, and varied garmeplay.

In KungFu Quest, you’re a fighter that travels back in time to battle the evil Chong Lee. Your mission is to progress up the Jade Tower, floor by floor, taking down swarms of enemies using a variety of martial arts moves. To direct your fighter, you use the left and right controllers along with jump and attack buttons. Each time you hit an enemy, you gain energy and inner strength, both necessary to take down your next opponent.

KungFu Quest features a dazzling array of opponents who stand between you and Chong Lee. Battles against basic “grunts” eases you into the gameplay, but before long you’ll encounter more skilled opponents wielding a variety of weapons including knives, swords, cleavers, and even guns. If this isn’t challenging enough, you’ll face various “bosses,” including such creative entries as a giant panda with spiked armor.

In addition to the basic game, KungFu Quest offers unique features such as the ability to unlock new moves and customize “strike combos” that work best for a particular level. This is essential, as certain moves deal more damage but are slower to perform — and when being swarmed by enemies from both sides, speed can be a far greater asset than pure strength. You can also unlock new clothing, hair styles, and even relics such as armor and bracers to improve your stats.

KungFu Quest is optimized for the mobile touch screen, providing easy and responsive inputs for the 38 challenging levels and 8 themes. Test your kung fu agility now with this side-scrolling fighting game, available for both iOS and Android.
