New App Profile Features

Calling all developers with an app in the Showcase! If you haven’t noticed, the app profile page for individual apps in the Showcase has been redesigned. You can now update your app’s profile page to include a video demo/review, screenshots, price, and version number. Just edit your exiting app profile or create a new app profile and fill out the new fields (you’ll need to upload screenshots of your app and put in the URL of a YouTube video). When updated, the app profile page will have a nice gallery viewer that looks like this: You can see a live example here.

You may have noticed an increase in Corona-powered apps in the “New & Noteworthy” and “What’s Hot” sections in the App Store. I did a quick glance at the App Store, and just by recognizing the icons, I could discern the following apps on their respective categories’ top pages. A Very Kitten Christmas is an excellent holiday-themed children’s eBook for iPad created by DieHard Studio. You might recognize DieHard’s name from the Corona Comics tutorial videos they contribute to our blog — well, their first eBook takes things another step forward with expertly rendered 3D graphics and animation. Blocfall by Thomas Claburn is an addictive game recalling the arcade classics of yesteryear. Your challenge is to clear each level of falling blocks by tapping the highest block on the screen until all of them are gone. The blocks begin in a row and fall. Tapping the highest block will remove it and add points to your score. OpenFeint integration allows you to compare your score against people around the world. Pillbox App Powered by Corona SDK Coming Soon to iPhone, iPad, and Android

Imagine you are an EMT, you go on a call to a house and find a person passed out next to an unlabeled bottle of pills. You need to identify what they might have taken — with the Pillbox app you can take out your mobile device, search, and load high resolution photos, and making a positive ID. Pillbox is a visual identification system (still in beta and not yet approved for clinical use) created by the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.  It’s a tool for doctors, poison control centers, other medical professionals, and the public to quickly and accurately identify pills.
