App of the Week: Experience Life
As a refreshing alternative to traditional textbooks, the iPad is a great tool for introducing complicated science to children of all ages. This week’s App of the Week, Experience Life, takes advantage of the iPad’s interactive capabilities by allowing children to navigate through the inner workings of the human body with a fun, hands-on approach. The app was developed by IDi Creative, a studio focused on creating high quality educational content, and was recently featured as New and Noteworthy in the Spanish App Store.
From revealing which sensors detect a cavity or a pinch on our skin, to sharing how the nervous system directs and coordinates our body, Experience Life is full of awesome information about the human body. The app seamlessly tackles a complex subject matter by walking through the functions of the senses, the nervous system, and the musculoskeletal system and incorporating vibrant graphics and loads of interactivity. It’s entertaining and informative for people of all ages – both you and your child will not only have a blast flipping through the gorgeous illustrations, but you’ll also learn a ton of new and interesting information.
For anyone with a keen interest in science, I highly recommend you check out Experience Life (available in both English and Spanish) for $2.99 in the App Store.
Honorable Mention
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Based on the classic story of a curious little girl and her encounter with a family of bears, the Corona-built Goldilocks and the Three Bears takes the reader for a wonderful adventure. The app’s charming illustrations, quirky interactive elements and lovely narration will delight readers, young and old. And the surprising number of interactive possibilities will have you discovering something new each time you read the story. For iPad owners, download Goldilocks and the Three Bears and enjoy a classic fairy tale in the digital world.
