Hiptic Games - George Deglin

Hiptic Games’ George Deglin

Now that the dust has settled from the Game Developers Conference (GDC), we’d like to share a recap of our time at the event. From March 27-29, we had the opportunity to exhibit to a whopping 23,000 game developers, hobbyists, students, and enthusiasts. We reconnected with old friends, meet new faces, and introduced thousands to the magic of Corona.

Throughout the 3-day expo, we were busy at work in the Corona booth, showing conference-goers how they could build games 10x faster. On Wednesday, Hiptic Games’ George Deglin presented a code demo of ShaqDown, and showed how to build and test levels with Corona SDK. On Thursday, our very own Corona engineers, Albert Yale and Bryan Smith, showed off physics tricks and impressed the audience with Corona’s built-in physics engine, and the power and speed of the platform.

On Friday, our fearless leader Walter Luh, was a judge at PlaneJam, where one lucky winner was awarded a Corona Enterprise license (congrats Sean Gubelman!). Did we mention that Develop Magazine recognized Corona Labs as a generous prize donor?

Thanks to a handful of stellar Corona users and booth volunteers, the audience received a first-hand account of a day in the life of a Corona developer. Special shoutout to Jordan Schuetz of Ninja Pig Studios, Stephen Lewis of Hard Boild Industries, Greg Lemon, developer of Monster Balls, and Jeff Marshall of Jericho Games.

As an added bonus, a few veteran Corona developers stopped by the booth, including Angelo Yazar and Tobiah Marks. The duo enjoyed over 11 million downloads of their cross-platform game Blast Monkeys. And they’re at it again, getting ready to launch a second version of the popular game. Joseph Clay, a graphic designer and participant of Global Game Jam, San Francisco stopped by as well to show off his latest Corona SDK creation, Bubble Maze. Thanks to all the talented folks that came by and showed us their awesome Corona-made games.

We’re already marking our calendar for the 2014 event!
