Corona SDK Developer Interview – Jordan Schuetz, Ninja Pig Studios

Recently I got a tweet from Jordan Schuetz, Corona SDK developer and owner of Ninja Pig Studios that said, “You should invite me to one of your interviews 🙂“. I’m always interested in talking with talented people who like to get things done, so I thought that was a great idea. A few tweets later we had ourselves a scheduled interview, which you can watch above.

In case you like to read, here are the cliff notes. Jordan Schuetz started developing mobile apps when he was 16 years old. That’s when he came up with the name Ninja Pig Studios. Jordan is now attending to college and running his app development business from his dorm room.

Jordan told me he likes to create apps for the Nook marketplace because, as he says, it isn’t as crowded as the Apple App store or the Google Play store. Jordan credits the Corona SDK with allowing him to be able to develop app quickly so that he could get noticed in the Nook market place early. This gave him an big advantage over using other platforms.

Our interview lasted about 30 minutes and I had a good time talking with Jordan. He’s exceptionally outgoing and is full of great tips. Watch the interview and let me know your favorite part.

BTW, as an update on my iPad Challenge video, I used the Dragon Dictation on my iPad mini to create the text for this blog post. It was much faster than type (which is what I’m doing now for some reason) and all I had to do was email the text to myself posting and add the external links to the post. I plan to do a lot more dictation in the future. The hardest part is building the habit, so every small victory there will get me that much closer to more consistent usage.

    I loved the part where Jordan talked about creating an app similar to an existing concept for a platform that didn’t already have available options. Looking for gaps in the market seems like a very smart approach to me.

    Great Interview! I enjoyed the discussion on Jordan’s experience with the Nook market. Great points about competition in the marketplace since his entry, and about B&N’s no-IAP policy and how that affected his options for promotion.

    @facebook-1497501964:disqus I agree, the Nook In-app purchase limitation was not something I was aware of. With all the talk about freemium’s rise in popularity it’s interesting to see an ecosystem where it’s not an option. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out for the Nook and the mobile app industry in general. Thank you for watching the interview.
