Corona Geek #131 – Walter Luh on Corona Free and Game Design Part 3 – Creating Walls

Corona Geek #131 – Walter Luh on Corona Free and Game Design Part 3 – Creating Walls

Corona Geek

During today’s Hangout, Walter Luh joined us to discuss the recent announcement that Corona is now free and will be adding desktop support for OSX and Win32. We talked about what that means to the community and mobile app developers in general. We also discussed the new Fuse Powered dashboard and how app developers can increase revenue.

During last week’s Hangout we continued our game design series with a look at the organization of our endless runner project. We also talked about the supporting files and the various bits and pieces that will be required before working with the code.

This week we started writing code to create walls in our game. Creating walls at a 45 degree angle that can be used for collision detection takes a little bit of 2D match, but Ed Maurina from Roaming Gamer, LLC. took us through the Corona SDK code we needed to know.

Each week we’ll be adding new pieces to our game. Download the code from the repo and follow along.

February’s Corona Geek Games Winner Announced

Congratulations to Noah Malewicz from ChunkyApps for being this month’s high score winner. Noah scored 368 on Crossy Road and earned himself a $50 gift card.

March’s Game – Let’s Play

The new game for March is Zig Zag Boom, which is also the game we are breaking down in our endless runner game development series. ZZB is available on iOS and Android.

To compete in this month’s Corona Geek Games, the rules are simple. Play the game for a high score, then share a photo / screenshot of your score on the Corona Geek Facebook wall for a chance to win. Download Zig Zag Boom for iOS or Zig Zag Boom for Android now and start playing. Good luck!

Want to suggest a game?
The game can be yours or someone else’s. Games that play for high score on iOS and Android work best. If you have a recommendation, leave it in the comments below.

Dang, I renewed (31st Dec 2014) 1 day before the refund window (Jan 1st 2015).

    Don’t need Enterprise.

    hi, again thanks.
but will we , as new enterprise users, still able to also compile with the standart corona pro. I will definitly look into enterprise, but basically I will continue to compile my apps with Pro.
it would be a mess should i am not be able to do so in the future, as it seems to work with enterprise is way more complex.
    looking for an answer.

    thanks
    chris

Wow, didn’t realise so many of those games are Corona developments! There should be a promo section in the iOS App Store for “Corona SDK Built” !

Matt, I think there is or was such a section. I used to post my first games there. It would have been great if they could simply pull from our app list on the stores.
